Deciding which bird to buy is a very individual choice for every person because all species of birds have their own characteristics. Having a pet bird is not like owning a fish because like dogs and cats the pet birds will crave attention and want to feel like a part of the family. Birds are not domesticated like most cats and dogs are and they will fly away if given the chance to escape from the house or their cage. Some people are able to train certain types of birds such as one man who taught his cockatoo to come back for a cup of coffee and was then able to leave the cage door open without any threat of the bird escaping. The difference in pet birds and their characteristics can be very big with some birds mimicking their owners while other prefer to have live partners such as the love birds.

Socializing your bird is one way to earn its trust which will mean that your pet bird could walk straight onto your hand and stay their until put back into the cage. Some parrots like to be put on your shoulder just like in the pirate movies because from up there they feel safe, calm and close to their mate which is you. Pet Names for Birds

Filed under: Pet Birds - 21 Sep 2010  | Spread the word !

[Facebook] [Twitter]

Many people love to have animals as pets. From the dawn of man, we have craved companionship from other creatures that walk this planet and it is a source of friendship and comfort to have a pet that you can care for. It can be a welcome distraction if you’ve had a hard day at work and will allow you to change your topic of thought; a change is as good as a rest! However, if you lead a busy life then you will be restricted for the type of animal that you get as a pet. You won’t want a dog as they need to be walked 2 or 3 times every day; leading to early starts and late nights. Nor will you want a cat; although they are very self sufficient, when you come home they crave your attention and will merely serve to annoy your already tired mind.

The best type of pet that you can get is a pet bird. Birds are very low maintenance as they require little more than nourishment and a cage. You can let them out during the day once they have been trained (a great idea is to get the kids to train them) and shut them away when you come home. Naming a bird is slightly more difficult than your average animal because some names don’t work properly. If you have kids they will probably call them Squawker or Birdie but if you want some other ideas then try and get creative. Shorten their names, so if it’s a budgie you can call them Bud. Or you can be a bit more conventional and call them Ellie or Jack.
